How Famco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them
- Famco stainless steel caps and the New York freeze-thaw cycle. - Famco anchor plates loosening on older masonry. Some Famco chimney fans and caps mount to anchor plates set into the crown. On 60-plus-year-old brick in New York, the concrete crown crumbles around those anchors and the whole assembly starts to rock. We remove the unit, rebuild the crown substrate, and reset with new anchors - not the same ones yanked out of spalled concrete.
- Spalling brick behind Famco chase covers. If you have a prefab or chase-style chimney with a Famco cover, the failure pattern we see most in New York is spalling at the chase top where water pools. The cover does its job, but the masonry beneath it doesn’t shed water the way it should. The fix is brick repair or replacement at the chase, plus waterproofing on the exposed masonry, not a new cover.
