Copperfield Chimney Repair Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Copperfield Chimney Repair in New York: What to Know First

Copperfield chimney repair in New York typically runs $350 to $1,400 for mortar and flashing work, and $2,800 to $7,500 when a flue liner or partial rebuild is involved. We’re an independent Copperfield service provider, not a manufacturer warranty station, which means we fix what’s actually wrong using OEM parts where they matter and proven aftermarket equivalents where they’re smarter. Most Copperfield repairs in the five boroughs take one to three days once parts are on hand. If you’re seeing spalling brick, a rusted-out damper, or water staining around the firebox, call (551) 213-5548 and we’ll put eyes on it.

This page is for homeowners who own a Copperfield wood-burning or gas fireplace, stove, or insert and need the chimney system repaired rather than replaced. Not sure which one you have? The section below names the specific failure patterns we see by line.

How Copperfield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Copperfield Chicago Series wood stoves: flue liner degradation from wet wood burning. Owners burning unseasoned wood get creosote that reads Class II or III on inspection, and over time it eats at the clay liner joints. We see this most in pre-1980 chimneys where the original liner was never designed for modern stove temperatures. The fix is usually a DuraFlex stainless liner sized to the Chicago’s collar, with insulation where the flue runs through an exterior wall.
  • Copperfield gas inserts (the DV line): failed termination caps and chase-top rust. The cap on a direct-vent Copperfield insert sits at the top of the chase and takes every weather event New York throws at it. Once the cap’s mesh corrodes, water gets in and the whole chase starts rusting from the inside. We replace the cap, check the chase pan, and rebuild the top flashing with an Olympia chase cover if the original has perforated.
  • Copperfield masonry fireplaces with original steel dampers: rusted and stuck open. The copper-plated damper blade sounds nice in the brochure, but copper plate doesn’t protect the steel frame underneath once the plating wears through. A damper that won’t close is a leak path for heated air all winter. We replace it with a top-sealing damper on the crown and abandon the old throat damper in place, which costs less than you’d think and actually seals.
  • Copperfield wood fireplace inserts in Brownstone and Park Slope rowhouses: smoke-back from the smoke chamber. The smoke chamber above the damper was always the sloppiest part of the original build, and a Copperfield insert makes it worse because the new liner focuses draft through a chamber that was never really parged. We parge the smoke chamber with ChamberTech 2000, which smooths the transition and stops the smoke spillage.
  • Copperfield zero-clearance fireplaces in newer condos: cracked refractory panels. Copperfield’s zero-clearance units aren’t unique here, but panels crack for the same reason everywhere: the wrong masonry screws, heat cycling, or just age. The copper-colored panel kits are cheaper from our suppliers than the OEM replacement, and we install them knowing the firebox dimensions are identical. If the panel crack exposes the metal jacket, it’s a repair, not a wait-and-see.

Our Copperfield Chimney Repair Process

Our Copperfield Chimney Repair Process
  1. 1
You call, we listen. You tell us what the fireplace is doing. We tell you whether it sounds like a repair or a camera inspection is the right first move. Either way, we give you a written scope before a tech sets foot in the house.
  2. 2
We run the camera. NFPA 211 Level 2 inspection, down the flue, past the damper, through the smoke chamber, into the firebox. We take photos of everything the camera sees. Clause 4 of the Haven Standard requires a photo record on every job, and we’ve done it that way since 2009.
  3. 3
We hand you the written price. Not a range, not “we’ll see when we’re in there.” The exact repair, the exact parts, the exact labor, and the date we’ll finish. If a Copperfield part is on backorder, we tell you which one and why we’re using the aftermarket version instead.
  4. 4
We do the work. Mortar repointing, tuckpointing, liner install, rebuild, flashing replacement, waterproofing, or damper swap. Materials come from our supplier network: DuraFlex for liners, HeatShield for resurfacing, Gelco for patch compounds, Olympia for chase covers.
  5. 5
We do a post-repair draw test. We want a verified draft, and we test it. We also put the camera up one more time if the job touched anything inside the flue.
  6. 6
We hand you the record. Photos from before and after, the written scope, the written warranty, and the signed 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right.

What Copperfield Chimney Repair Costs in New York

Here’s what you should expect to pay, in dollars: mortar repointing between $350 and $900 depending on how many courses have failed. Flashing repair runs $400 to $900. Waterproofing the exterior brick with a latex-based sealant is $500 to $1,100 after prep. A crown cast in steel-crack sealant runs $450 to $1,200. A complete DuraFlex liner swap with insulation runs $2,800 to $5,600. A partial chimney rebuild from the roofline up starts at $3,200 and goes up from there based on how much brick we’re replacing.

What moves the number: roof access, the height of the chimney, whether the repair is at the crown or the firebox, whether the flue has offset bends that complicate a liner pull, and whether scaffolding is required in a building of more than four floors. We’ll put a written price in your hand, and our estimates are free. Call (551) 213-5548.

Why New York Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney New York for Copperfield Work

Because they’ve already been told they need a $6,000 repair by someone who never showed them a photo. We’ve inspected and cleaned more than 38,000 chimneys since 2009, and the whole idea of what we do is to show you the video before we spend a dollar of your money. Corrine Halstead, our owner, learned to read a flue liner and write up a repair estimate in the building trades program at Bronx Community College, and she runs things on the principle that a written price and a photo of the problem come before any conversation about what to do next. The camera doesn’t argue with you, and neither does the price sheet.

Every tech is background-checked and uniformed, and we text you when they’re on the way. If you bring us a competitor’s written estimate, we’ll give you a free second opinion. We also service DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco installations, so if your Copperfield needs a liner from one and a refractory repair from another, we’re not starting from zero.
