DuraFlex Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

This page is for homeowners in New York who own or inherited a fireplace system with DuraFlex components: a DuraFlex liner, a DuraFlex reline kit, or a DuraFlex-vented gas insert. If you’re seeing soot outside the firebox, smelling exhaust in the house, or your annual inspection flagged the liner, you’re in the right place. We work on DuraFlex products every week. We know what they look like when they’re fine and what they look like when they’re not.

Corrine Halstead runs Level Two Chimney New York. She grew up in the Bronx, spent the better part of two decades cleaning and inspecting chimneys across New York City, including a stretch of older brownstones near Prospect Park in Brooklyn that kept her camera busy for years. She learned the trade through the building trades and construction technology program at Bronx Community College, and she still reads flue liners the way she was taught: name the part, state the condition, give the number.

Key Takeaways

  • We’re independent. Level Two Chimney New York is not affiliated with or authorized by DuraFlex. We work on their products because they hold up well in New York flues, not because anyone pays us to.
  • Written price before work starts. Always. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1. If someone won’t put a fireplace repair price in writing before the job, call us instead.
  • Camera inspection on every DuraFlex job. NFPA 211 Level 2, photos included. Clause 4 of the Haven Standard has required a cataloged photo record on every visit since 2009.
  • Repair over replace, when the liner says so. A DuraFlex liner with a localized tear can often be repaired for a few hundred dollars. A fully separated liner usually can’t. We’ll show you the photos either way.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

DuraFlex makes a solid product. But every liner and vent system has failure modes, and New York’s particular combination of wet summers, freeze-thaw winters, and century-old flue architecture stresses them in ways a manufacturer spec sheet doesn’t describe. Here’s what we actually find when we put a camera down a DuraFlex system in a New York home:

  • DuraFlex 316L liner pitting near the smoke chamber. This is the most common DuraFlex-specific issue we see in New York rowhouses and brownstones. The 316L alloy handles flue gas from gas appliances well, but when a homeowner runs long, hot wood fires in a liner rated primarily for gas, we see pitting and thinning where the liner meets the smoke chamber. That’s not a manufacturing defect. It’s a misuse pattern. The fix is either a localized patch where the pitting is isolated or a target wall pass-through section replacement if the liner has lost more than 30 percent of its wall thickness. We measure with a wall-thickness gauge, not by eye.
  • DuraFlex DURA-VENT direct vent pipe separation at the joint seals. In New York, houses settle. Older houses settle more. When a home shifts, direct vent pipe joints that were once tight can separate by a quarter inch or more, and that’s enough to leak flue gas into a wall cavity. We find this most often in conversions installed in the 2000s, where the installer used high-temperature silicone at the joints and time plus heat cycling has loosened it. We re-seat the joints, replace the gaskets and locking bands, and re-test with a combustion analyzer. If the pipe was undersized for the run, we say so and quote the replacement.
  • DuraFlex DURA-LINER tears at the termination point. The top of the liner is where the weather in New York does its damage. The termination cap and the first few feet of liner take the brunt of rain, ice, and UV. We regularly see small tears at the top plate and the upper liner seam on systems six to ten years old. Caught early, that’s a top-section replacement, not a full reline. The camera tells us which one it is.
  • Improperly sized DuraFlex liner causing draft problems. A liner that’s too large for the appliance it serves creates cool spots, slow draft, and creosote buildup. A liner that’s too small chokes the appliance and pushes exhaust into the room. We see both in New York, especially in older homes where a previous owner “upgraded” the liner without resizing it for the actual appliance. Our fix starts with measuring the flue, the appliance BTU rating, and the actual draft with a manometer. Then we size the replacement correctly. The camera doesn’t argue with you, and neither does the price sheet.
  • DuraFlex masonry reline systems with cracked ceramic insulation. When we open up an older DuraFlex reline job, especially one done before 2015, we sometimes find the ceramic blanket insulation has settled or cracked. That means the liner is running hotter than specified, which accelerates wear and can be a fire risk in chase walls. We replace the insulation and re-wrap the liner to the manufacturer’s spec, then document the whole repair with photos.

Our DuraFlex Fireplace Services Process

Every DuraFlex job we do follows the same sequence. It keeps surprises out of the price and keeps the job moving. Here’s what a typical DuraFlex fireplace service call in New York looks like:

  1. 1
You call (551) 213-5548. A live person answers. Not a voicemail, not a web form. We ask what you’re seeing and schedule the visit.
  2. 2
We arrive, background-checked tech in uniform, and we run a Level 2 camera inspection. Camera down the flue, photos of every section from firebox to termination. If there’s a DuraFlex component in the system, we’re specifically looking at seams, joints, termination points, and the smoke chamber interface. We document everything. This is standard, not an add-on.
  3. 3
You see the photos. We don’t tell you the liner “needs work.” We show you the frame where the tear is. We name what we found: “That’s a Class III creosote deposit sitting on the cooler spot where the liner meets the smoke chamber.” Then we explain what it means in one plain clause.
  4. 4
We write the price before work starts. Haven Standard Clause 1. Written scope, written price, written warranty. You approve it before a tool comes out of the bag.
  5. 5
We do the work. OEM DuraFlex parts where the system is new and under warranty, or quality aftermarket equivalents where the system is older and the OEM part is no longer made or is priced unreasonably. We never install a part we wouldn’t put in our own chimney.
  6. 6
We test, we photograph, we hand you the record. Combustion analyzer readings, post-repair camera footage, and a written warranty on the work. You walk away with the same documentation we’d give a code inspector.

What DuraFlex Fireplace Services Cost in New York

Here is the honest price posture. We don’t hide pricing and we don’t pad it. A standard DuraFlex fireplace service call in New York with a Level 2 camera inspection runs $229 to $349, depending on the system and access. That includes the inspection, written findings, and the photo record. If we find nothing wrong, that’s all you pay.

  • Gas fireplace service (cleaning, burn test, thermocouple check): $149 to $279
  • Damper repair or replacement: $175 to $450, depending on the damper type and access
  • Firebox repair (minor mortar or refractory panel): $150 to $600
  • DuraFlex liner repair (localized tear): $350 to $750
  • DuraFlex full reline (typical single-story New York flue): $2,800 to $6,500, depending on length, access, and insulation

What moves the price: roof access difficulty, liner length, whether we need scaffolding, and whether the smoke chamber needs parging at the same time. You’ll see every line item before you approve it. For an exact quote, call (551) 213-5548. Estimates are free, and they’re in writing.

Why New York Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney New York for DuraFlex Work

We’re not the biggest chimney company in New York, and we’re not trying to be. But we’ve inspected and cleaned more than 38,000 chimneys since 2009, every one with a written price before work started and a documented record when it was done. The 365-Day Done Right Promise is stamped on every job under the Haven Standard: if it’s not done right, we make it right. No fine print, no re-quote, no argument.

We know DuraFlex because we see it weekly, across New York City and the inner suburbs: co-op units in Queens, Brooklyn brownstones, prewar apartments on the Upper West Side, and split-levels in Staten Island. When a DuraFlex liner or vent system is damaged, we know when it can be repaired and when it needs to be replaced, and we’ll show you the evidence either way. We also service HeatShield and Gelco systems, so if you have a mixed-brand setup, one team handles the whole thing. Corrine runs the shop on a simple rule: a written price and a photo of the problem come before any conversation about what to do next.
